Cocoa in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is located in Central America between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It’s a land rich in flora and wildlife.

Nicaragua is called “The land of lakes and volcanoes” for its countless volcanoes, most of which are still active, as well as lakes, rivers and lagoons that provide beautiful landscapes.

The country has a tropical climate and agriculture accounts for the majority of the economy activity.

In 2015, Nicaragua was recognized as 100% fine cocoa origin by the International Cocoa Organization. Only 9 countries are recognized as such.

Ingemann in Nicaragua

Recognized as leaders in genetics, post-harvest methodology and quality, Ingemann is a fine cocoa producer and exporter from Nicaragua. We produce a wide array of fine cocoa: single varieties and single region, organic and UTZ certified, micro-lots and different protocols from a same variety.

Through constant innovation we have developed post-harvest protocols that allow us to create unique cocoa flavor profiles for the most demanding and creative chocolate makers in the world. Hand in hand with innovation, we work on real sustainability programs and practices applied in every step of the production process because that is the only way for a healthy and long term relationship with the producers, our customers and the environment.

Ingemann-in-Nicaragua

Our trees are produced in our own nursery where we graft every variety. We have a germplasm bank for the research of our cocoa varieties and genetics, as well as to study their productivity and preserve the genetic material for the future.

Our fine cocoa varieties are recognized as Heirloom Cacao and Cocoa of Excellence. Fine chocolate makers from around the world have collected more than 150 awards in the 2 most prestigious awards: International Chocolate Awards and Academy of Chocolate.

The Cocoa Sector
in Nicaragua

Cacaos de Nicaragua is a brand created with the objective of promoting the quality, flavor and diversity of Nicaraguan cocoa to the world. This brand has been developed through the efforts of Comisión de cacaos de Nicaragua (Nicaraguan Cocoa Commission in English), organized by the Association of exporters of Nicaragua (APEN, by its initials in Spanish). The commission is composed by all actors of the cocoa sector: producers, exporters and chocolate makers.

Ingemann Fine Cocoa is a committed member of the Comisión de cacaos de Nicaragua. We encourage you to stay up-to-date of our future projects and events as we show the world the beauty of our cocoa.
